Limit switch is an electro-mechanical limiter ,that is used to restrict over journey in varied machines and equipments. Whenever there's an over journey in a machine electrical connection gets open circuited. Basic working precept of limit switch and proximity switch is same and based mostly on there utility one can be used.

Characteristics of Limit Switch

Working Principle:

It is rather like a SPDT(Single Pole Double Throw) switch which has three contacts i.e COM (Common), NO, NC. A Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) switch is a switch that only has a single enter and might hook up with and switch between 2 outputs. This means it has one input terminal and two output terminals. NO is the Normally Open contact (open if the plunger is free), NC is the Normally Closed contact (closed if the plunger is free) and COM is the common. Plunger - part of a device or mechanism that works with a plunging or thrusting movement. NO usually might be open with respect to COM while NC will be shorted with COM. When the object hit the plunger, NO might be shorted with the COM whereas NC will be open with respect to COM. When plunger just isn't pressed then C and NC are connected and NO disconnected. When plunger is pressed, C and NO connect and NC disconnects.

How Proximity Switch and Limit Switch Are Different

The major difference is that a limit switch is often triggered by a mechanical movement (cam, dog, and so on.) whereas the proximity switch is triggered simply by the close proximity of the member with out actual,physical contact (magnetic, optical, electrostatic, and so forth.).
