Sierra Block, sophomore Biology major at UW–Madison, received a Hilldale Sophomore Research Fellowship for the research project “Identification of SARS-CoV-2 Receptor in the testis of the Rhesus Macaques (Macaca mulatta) and its implications on reproductive health and fertility”. Sierra is mentored by Ted Golos, PhD, of the UW Ob-Gyn Division of Reproductive Sciences.
Block’s award supports work on ACE2 expression in the male reproductive tract in rhesus monkeys in the Golos lab. ACE2 is the receptor for SARS-CoV-2 and this research will address potential mechanisms by which the virus has been reported to be found in semen.
