A new publication by David Abbott, PhD, of the UW Ob-Gyn Division of Reproductive Sciences, examines the relationship between testosterone, androstenedione, and metabolic health in people with polycystic ovary syndrome.
“Serum Testosterone to Androstenedione Ratio Predicts Metabolic Health in Normal-Weight Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Women”, in the Journal of the Endocrine Society, examined serum levels of testosterone and androstenedione in 19 PCOS patients, compared to a control group of age and BMI-matched patients. Researchers also correlated the testosterone/androstenedione ratio with serum lipids, insulin resistance, and insulin sensitivity.
