Welcome the 2021 Shapiro Summer Research students!

 
The Shapiro Summer Research Program supports opportunities for SMPH students to undertake full-time summer research projects under the mentorship of UW faculty members. Projects may be in any area of basic science, clinical, translational, health services, global, and public health research.

This summer, eight SMPH medical students will work with faculty in the UW Department of Ob-Gyn on summer research projects. Please help us welcome the 2021 Shapiro research students:

  • Clara Olson (mentored by Katie Antony, MD)
    • Research project: Assessment of in-hospital pain control after childbirth and its correlation with anxiety in the immediate and long-term postpartum period
  • Rachel Craven (mentored by Heidi Brown, MD, MAS)
    • Research project: Gynecologic Surgery Postoperative Narcotic Use
  • Tess Jewell (mentored by Deborah Ehrenthal, MD, MPH)
    • Research project: The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Community Health Workers in Wisconsin: evaluation of a statewide survey
  • Meghan Zander (mentored by Jenny Higgins, PhD, MPH)
    • Research project: Provider Perspectives on Abortion Legislation in Wisconsin
  • Kelsey Christianson (mentored by Laura Jacques, MD)
    • Research project: Patients’ perspectives in deciding a method for second trimester pregnancy termination for fetal anomalies: a qualitative study
  • Allison Zinter (mentored by Katie Sampene, MD)
    • Research project: Sentinel Lymph Node Metastasis Rate in Women with a Pre-operative Diagnosis of Endometrial Complex Atypical Hyperplasia
  • Arielle Mora Hurtado (mentored by Ryan Spencer, MD, MS)
    • Research project: Analysis of Cancer Outcomes and Patient Satisfaction Following Implementation of Telemedicine for Endometrial Cancer Recurrence Surveillance During the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • Hailey Milakovich (mentored by Ryan Spencer, MD, MS)
    • Research project: Analysis of endometrial cancer recurrence patterns in the era of telemedicine
