Dr. Brent Dumermuth and Educational Program Manager John Street recently presented at the 14th Annual International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) held January 25-29, in San Francisco. Their presentation, entitled, “Low-Tech Simulation: Affordable, Faculty/Learner Friendly, and a Great Educational Value,” was developed along with Dr. Joel Henry, who was unable to attend due to clinical responsibilities.

From the conference program:

The most direct route to a successful simulation program is to focus first on the principles of effective education.  The level of simulation technology used is a secondary consideration. Our presentation promotes the virtues of low-tech simulation and the educational, administrative, and financial benefits it provides to a simulation program. We present numerous examples from our simulation curriculum and describe the sometimes unexpected benefits we have derived from low-tech simulation.

The conference, attended by over 3,000 people from 40 countries, was sponsored by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, the premier organization for healthcare professionals involved in simulation training.
