On May 2, 2022, a draft memo from the U.S. Supreme Court suggesting the court’s upcoming decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization will support overturning Roe v. Wade was leaked to the press

An opinion piece published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel by UW Collaborative for Reproductive Equity and Division of Reproductive and Population Health Director Jenny Higgins, PhD, MPH and Laura Jacques, MD, of the Division of Academic Specialists in Ob-Gyn outlines the potential consequences for pregnant people in Wisconsin if Roe v. Wade is overturned.

Opinion: Ending access to legal abortion has potentially deadly health consequences for Wisconsin women” draws from two abortion-related studies they conducted, finding that physicians across specialties largely opposed restrictions to abortion, and that criminalization of abortion in Wisconsin could deepen inequities and increase complications from unsafe abortion:

“Across all medical specialties, doctors overwhelmingly opposed legal restrictions on abortion healthcare services. For example, 91% said that women’s healthcare in Wisconsin would get worse if Roe v. Wade were overturned and the state’s abortion law took effect. More than 90% also expressed concern that restrictive abortion laws will make it difficult for patients to receive the care they need.”
