Spivak selected as class of 2023 global health resident

Talya Spivak, MD, a member of the UW Ob-Gyn incoming resident class of 2023, was selected to join the global health track!

As part of the interdisciplinary UW SMPH global health track, she will participate in protected didactic sessions, small group work, and case-based learning, along with global health residents from other disciplines. She will also spend elective time during PGY-3 at our global health partner site in Hawassa, Ethiopia.

Spivak brings extensive global health experience to the department. As a medical student at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences, she was an active participant in Students for Medical Missions, visiting Honduras and Guatemala to help provide medical services. Her experiences on the medical mission trips also inspired her to co-found a traveling clinic in Toledo to help bring medical services to patients with limited transportation options.

“Being a part of the global health track at UW will allow me to work in underserved communities both locally and abroad,” Spivak says. “My experience with global health has shown me how to approach healthcare holistically and empathetically, and how I can integrate this perspective of care into my practice in local communities, including in Madison. I want to continue to expand on this type of training to provide holistic and resourceful care to patients I meet in any community. The Global Health Track is an excellent opportunity for me to continue to grow as a physician in this way.”

Congratulations, Dr. Spivak! We look forward to welcoming you to Wisconsin soon.
